Eastwoood Iron Horses @ New Richmond Generals

Game 1:  Iron Horses: 8, Generals 9

Game 2:  Iron Horses: 6, Generals 1

The Iron Horses earned a split at New Richmond today against the hosting Generals. Though General Grant himself kept falling over, the base ball Generals were outstanding hosts. We graciously thank them for adding our date to their schedule even after their summer was set when our team came into existence.

On the field, the Generals took the opening game by a 9-8 tally. Both teams scored early, with the Generals leading 3-2 at the end of the first innings. They pulled away to a 6-2 lead before the Iron Horses tied the the score at 6-6 at the end of the 5th. The Generals countered with three more aces in their 6th inning with the Iron Horses put up two in the bottom half. A late rally in the bottom of the last inning came up short thanks to well played defense by the Generals, who held on for the win.

After a brief lunch in the shade of the trees, the teams went back at it on the field. The Generals tallied an ace in their opening inning to take a 1-0 advantage. The Iron Horses put up a strong second inning to take a 6-1 lead. Both teams managed base runners, though neither side could tally aces thanks to strong defensive plays by both sides. Quick thinking by Passenger, in center field, forced and out at second to end one inning. Sparky ended a two out rally by the Generals on a diving catch from one of the stronger hitters at the game. Spike provided flash on offense by picking up a stolen base. The 6-1 score held for the end of the game; the Iron Horses won their first match.
